Next Wednesday 25 November I’ll be presenting at the Victorian Herbalists Association event. If you’re in Melbourne it would be great to see you on the evening. VIC Herbs is a State Chapter of the NHAA, and I love attending their events when I can – it’s a great herbal community, and a good excuse for me to visit Melbourne! Details of the evening are below.
Outcome Measures & the Curious Case of CLIPPERS
CLIPPERS – chronic lymphocytic inflammation with pontine perivascular enhancement responsive to steroids – is an only recently defined condition, with serious neurological consequences in many cases.
As such, there is really no herbal precedent for managing this complex and interesting condition, nor is there much known about the optimal conventional medical treatment or the long term prognosis.
Managing a patient with a condition of this nature, and especially evaluating the efficacy of herbal and naturopathic treatment, poses significant challenges. This is where the use of Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROM’s) can be exceedingly valuable.
In this presentation Ian will discuss the case history of a patient with CLIPPERS, review the known pathophysiology and clinical manifestations, and show how PROM’s can assist in measuring the effectiveness of treatment.
